Today, the VELUX Group published its 2018 Sustainability Report. The report shows that the VELUX Group reduced its carbon footprint by 43% in 2018 versus a 34% reduction in 2017. The Group’s target is a 50% reduction by the end of next year (compared to the 2007 baseline).

The 9-percentage point improvement in our efforts to reduce our environmental impact is driven by energy efficiency and renewable energy projects, including the installation of new woodchip bio-boilers and solar panel systems, energy optimisation measures and the increased purchase of electricity from offshore wind farms.

The target to halve carbon emissions in 2020, falls under the VELUX Group’s sustainability focus area Energy and Climate. However, our effort goes much broader than this and main achievements in 2018 include:

  • 43% reduction in carbon footprint in all VELUX factories compared to the 2007 baseline
  • 97% of waste materials recycled or used for heat generation
  • 99.5% of wood used in VELUX windows in Europe comes from certified, sustainable forests
  • 2.7 work-related accidents per one million working hours – four times lower than the comparable industry benchmark

Sustainability Strategy 2030

In 2019, the VELUX Group's started working on a new 10-year sustainability strategy, which will be launched in 2020.

It reaffirms the VELUX Group strong support for the global sustainability agenda and it will focus on contributing to five of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

I’m delighted to see that in 2018 the VELUX Group made more progress towards sustainable production and consumption and achieving its 2020 goal for carbon emissions. Driving down carbon emissions in our activities is an important part of our commitment to running a sustainable business. The Group takes the United Nations’ Sustainable Development goals very seriously and 2019 will be an important year as we are defining our strategy towards how we will contribute to a more sustainable world.
