Hidden and Vulnerable: Promoting Decent Working Conditions for Home-Based Workers

In regions such as South Asia, home-based workers are a significant part of the workforce in labour-intensive sectors. They generally work in the informal sector and most are women. They represent one of the most vulnerable groups of workers in the supply chain.

This session will outline the specific challenges of suppliers who manage home-based workers. We will discuss how businesses can work with suppliers and civil society to help protect the rights of home-based workers. The sessions will include case studies from amfori members and partners.

Agenda:

  • Understanding the needs and specific challenges related to HBW - Shahnaz Rafique, National Coordinator, All India Unorganized Workers Congress
  • Mapping and identifying HBW in the supply chain - Lucy Brill, Director, Homeworkers Worldwide
  • Enabling producers to manage HBW - Jean Ellen Johnson, GoodWeave, Director, Apparels and Accessories
  • Q&A - Moderated by Natasha Majundar, amfori Network Representative, India
