Harvest the benefits of the Danish collaboration

Indhold fra partner Hvad er dette?

Cross-disciplinary collaboration is characteristic for the Danish food cluster, which ranks among the strongest centres for food know-how and innovation in the world. It is also key to reaching the UN Sustainable Development Goals. A new white paper from Food Nation dives into the strengths and opportunities of collaboration.

3 times the Danish population. That’s how many people the Danish food sector feed, making it one of the most effective and innovative food industries in the world compared to size. There is no sole reason for Denmark’s efficiency in food production, but one thing is for sure: Collaboration has, is, and will always play a huge part in driving knowhow and innovation in the Danish food sector.

Higher quality camel milk in Ethiopia. Better use of the whole pig in China. Cheese quality optimization in Colombia. Collaboration has taken Danish businesses and organizations far and wide. Sharing and exchanging knowledge makes Danish companies, universities and organizations world-leading in innovative food products and solutions. Presented to a problem, the Danish answer is always: How can we do better – together?

A history of working together

Collaboration is no new idea in Denmark. In the 19th century, the cooperative movement developed as Danish dairies, slaughterhouses and grocery stores organized in cooperatives to secure better working conditions, higher yields, quality products and earnings.

Facilities, equipment and technology have changed – the mindset has not. Today, as in the 19th century, a principle of cooperation between both large- and small-scale farmers has pushed the boundaries for food production and innovation. One result of this effort is the Danish collaboration between researchers, farmers and public authorities that has eliminated salmonella in Danish poultry.

Collaborating to reach the SDG’s

If we are to reach the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), companies and organizations must work together. The new white paper shows how the Danish collaborative mindset has resulted in a range of innovative food products and global solutions. Each and every one in the value chain moves the food cluster a step towards a more sustainable economy. Serving as an inspiration, the white paper showcases examples on how to integrate a collaborative mentality, how to achieve great results together and invites you to find your next business partner within the Danish food cluster.
