Dow Jones Sustainability Index announces latest rankings

Air France-KLM has held top positions the past 14 years and we will uphold our ranking by pursuing its efforts to further reduce its environmental footprint.

Photo is taken when we launched flights to/from Växjö in Sweden in May 2018 and we do so as sustainable as possible. This means KLM not only purchases sustainable biojet fuel for the route, it also compensates the total remaining carbon dioxide emissions of all flights through KLM's CO2ZERO service..

Sustainability is integrated into Air France-KLM’s business and operations. For KLM, sustainable enterprise implies that we focus on themes where we can best influence and support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations. In addition to our efforts to reduce our environmental footprint, we focus on themes such as diversity and responsible purchasing, and we continually engage with other stakeholders in the greater Schiphol Mainport area.

The commitment and innovation potential of our staff are essential for our business. Many new initiatives are thought up and put into practice on the work floor. In addition, we are investing in cutting back CO2 emissions by way of sustainable biofuel, fleet renewal, weight reduction on board and many other initiatives. It is KLM’s objective to reduce CO2 emissions per passenger by 20% in 2020, compared to 2011. We are well on our way to achieving this target, with reduction already at 17% in June 2018.

Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI)

The DJSI has a so called “best-in-class” approach, assessing the efforts of corporations in various different sectors on the basis of various sustainability indicators, and comparing them to their competitors. Every year, more than 3,000 listed companies, including 800 companies in emerging markets, are invited by RobecoSAM to report on their sustainability efforts.
