Organic is a part of the solutions of tomorrow

Denmark is a country with high ambitions for its organic production. With an increased focus on sustainability globally, Danish companies are showcasing how organic is part of the solution for a sustainable food system when they exhibit their organic and sustainable products at Nordic Organic Food Fair.

In November last year, you met 20 Danish companies exhibiting at The Nordic Organic Food Fair in Malmö, which is the largest certified organic food and drink trade event in the Nordic Region. At the exhibition you could explore a wide range of organic food products, beverages and solutions as a part of this year’s Danish Pavilion organised by Organic Denmark.

The Danish Pavilion was opened by the Danish Minister for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, Rasmus Prehn, who will further join a panel discussion arranged by Organic Denmark and Food Nation. The main theme was how to achieve the ambitious EU 2030-goal of organic farming from a political, corporate and retail point of view.

“Organic food products in Denmark have a bigger share of the retail market than anywhere else in the world, including sales in online stores. Strong and trusting collaboration across the public and private sector has provided a solid foundation for this growth adventure and my hope is that the development within this area continues,” says Rasmus Prehn, Minister for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries.

A common organic ambition in the EU
The European Commission has set a target to reach 25% of agricultural land under organic farming by 2030 across EU member states. The target was presented by the Commission as part of its new action plan for the development of organic production to boost biodiversity.

By producing high-quality food focused on increased biodiversity, better animal welfare and less antibiotics, organic farming will play an essential role in developing a sustainable food system in the entire EU.

“We need to discuss how national policy and innovation within the organic sector can contribute to a more sustainable food system and sustainable development in general. Organic production is part of the solution, and I am sure we through collaboration can reach the 25% EU target,” says Helle Borup Friberg, CEO of Organic Denmark.

Thus, companies from all over Europe gathered at Nordic Organic Food Fair to showcase their sustainable and organic products. This gave the retailers the opportunity to add a wider range of organic products – many of them Danish.
